Summer Wardrobe Essentials – Dresses
Empire line
An empire line dress is a very flattering cut on most shapes. This style is tightly fitted around your bust area and will flare out from just underneath, hiding a multi tube of skins and giving your waist definition. If you have a small waist, show it off with a wide leather belt. If you are an apple shape and don’t have a natural waist, simply wear a big belt on your ribs to show off the smallest part of your body while creating the illusion of a waist. I find that an empire line dress is a cotton fabric is really flattering.
Wrap Jersey Dress
The other very popular style of dress that I recommend for most women is the knitted jersey wrap dress. This style was made famous by Diane von Furstenberg in the 1970’s and is still relevant to wardrobes today. The shape works to flatter the smallest part of your waist.
Maxi Dress
Every summer season we see the return of the maxi dress. While it was once though that only really tall women should be seen in a maxi, the rise of short celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie and Dannii Minogue wearing this style of dress has shown that petite girls can pull this look off too. If you do have a petite frame, it’s best to go for a block colour so that you are not swamped. Team the dress with a pair of wedges or espadrilles to give you added height and you will feel like a goddess.
Tall women can go for fabulous loud prints on their maxi dress as you have the height to pull it off. You can also pair your maxi dress with a pair of Gladiator sandals in either a neutral tan or metallic colour or if you are brave go for a slice of colour.
If you have a great bust, make sure you show off your decolletage with a V neck style. Equally if you have nice shoulders, a halter neck style will work to your advantage.
When it comes to dresses you can’t go wrong, I would say it’s the quintessential piece in every woman’s wardrobe.
