Style on a Budget

Style on a Budget

While most of us would love to have Carrie Bradshaw’s walk-in wardrobe, the reality is not everyone has access to an unlimited wad of cash, nor the wardrobe space. With the world of fashion constantly changing, most just wouldn’t know where to begin. And so, more often than not, our best option is to make the most of our current wardrobe until we are ready for some serious retail therapy. Even with life’s conflicting priorities and personal responsibilities, our ultimate wardrobe may still be out of reach.

Our natural instinct is to sometimes just ‘shop’ to fill the gap in our wardrobe. Whether you shop at Target or have a taste for haute couture, anyone can look stylish on a budget. And let’s be frank, not everyone can afford the luxe tag price every season.

So in the interim, here are some tips to make the most of creating a winning wardrobe without busting the bank and giving your plastic card a workout.

• Shop from your closet: Re-visit old favourites or something you haven’t worn or paid much attention to in a while. Try them on and mix it with your new favourites, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

• Get Creative: Changing buttons can transform an old jacket in a flash. Even dyeing an old top can give it a new lease of life.

• Accessorise: By adding a scarf, a brooch or stacking up on your bangles or strings of necklaces, a drab outfit can be given the ‘WOW’ factor.

• Trash n’ Treasure: Shop at flea markets or do a clothing ‘swap’ with your girlfriends – one person’s trash is another woman’s treasure.

• High & low: if you are lucky enough to have some designer pieces, mix it with high street pieces so you are not a walking designer billboard. Punctuate your style with some personal pieces.

• Cover up: a suit jacket can quickly spruce up a simple outfit and will give it a polished look.

• If the shoe fits: If you have a favourite pair of shoes that still look fantastic, why not add some accessories, which you can purchase online or make yourself.

• Cut it out: If you have an old pair of jeans that you just can’t bear to throw out, why not turn them into shorts. Denim is a classic look and you’ll still get a wear a for a couple of seasons.

• Be neat: There’s something to neat and filed nails, good skin and healthy glow that completes an outfit. Good personal hygiene is a must and non-negotiable.

Command respect and get ready to turn heads and empower your style. Make the most of what you have and get creative.…

What To Wear To an Interview – Men

What To Wear To an Interview – Men

If you’ve spent weeks, even months, landing a meeting with a potential employer, you don’t want to make a fashion faux pas by deviating from the traditional interview attire for men. If you want to wear jeans and ratty t-shirt or the latest cutting-edge fashions from Milan, fine – just do it somewhere else! Knowing what to wear and what not to wear on your big day will help you make the right first impression – that hopefully scores you the job!

Pretty much without exception, a suit is the standard men’s wear for an interview. Choose a dark colored suit such as a charcoal gray or navy blue – black will probably look too much like a tuxedo! A light pin stripe is acceptable on your suit, but an all over pattern, such as a plaid, is just way too loud! You’ll be remembered, but not in a good way. As for the style and fit of your suit, the jacket should be tailored without being too snug and the sleeves should show approximately A” of your dress shirt peeking out from underneath. Select a traditional two or three button suit and leave your four-buttoned or double-breasted suit at home.

As for your shirt and tie, a white button-down shirt in 100-percent cotton conveys the most conservative image but ivory and light-blue shirts are also popular. Both point and spread collars are fine for the interview. Guys often pick ties to reflect their personalities – splattered with fishes for the angler, decorated with golf balls for the golfer and so on. This is way too much information for the interview, just stick with a silk tie with a traditional pattern such as stripes, checks or dots. When tying your neck tie, it should read to the top of your waistband or belt buckle without hanging down further.

Shoes for the interview should be dark such as black, oxblood or brown and should preferably lace up – loafers are too casual for an interview. Socks should complement and blend in with the suit, no one wants to see a blinding flash of white between your shoe and pant cuff. Limit the jewelry you wear to simply a wedding ring and possibly a low-profile pair of cufflinks – no earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. Also avoid heavy cologne because it may become overbearing in a small office space.

To summarize, your image on interview day should say “I’m the best guy for the job.” If you need to learn about the corporate culture to determine precisely what to wear, visit the company web site or find out from a buddy who works there. Dress for success by wearing for the position you aspire to – that way you’ll look the part, reflect who your resume says you are, and become more likely to get hired!…

The Warning Signs Which Point to Garage Door Problems

The Warning Signs Which Point to Garage Door Problems

Contrary to the complacent belief of most homeowners, garage doors are not immune to problems. Usually we take them for granted, because they are quite durable, and we use them for many years. When a breakdown does occur, it often comes as a shock, and at a time that is most inconvenient, for example, on the morning that you’re already late for work and the door refuses to open. In order to keep a garage door crisis from happening in your life, there are some telltale clues that you need to watch for that will let you know in advance that something is going wrong.

1. One of the most common garage door problems is the result of failure to keep the working mechanisms properly lubricated. The problem can manifest itself as a squeaking sound as the door opens or closes, and it’s usually caused by dry rollers, tracks, or bearings. It’s a problem that can generally be averted by keeping these items oiled before they totally dry out. A bit of preventive maintenance can save you big repair bills later on.

2. It may be that your door isn’t closing properly the way it did when it was new. This can happen so gradually that you may not even notice it if you aren’t watching for possible problems. Usually, you’ll find some type of obstruction that isn’t allowing the door to close as it should, but it can also be indicative of a broken cable or a damaged cable pulley which may mean it’s time to call in the professionals.

3. If your opening or closing garage door starts making a scraping sound, it could mean that your cable has gotten worn and needs to be replaced. It can also mean that your reinforcement strut is no longer even or that it has become out of position in some way. If you are unable to figure out what is causing the sound and how to fix it, once again you should consider calling a garage door professional.

4. Sometimes your door can begin moving much more sluggishly than it once did. This is another problem that can sneak up on you, because it happens so gradually. This can be attributable to the springs that operate the door being worn out. You want to catch this condition early so that you can have the springs replaced before one of them snaps. The snapping of a tension spring can be dangerous.

Garage door problems don’t happen every day, but they do come about slowly, over time, because of daily wear on the door and its parts. Having regular preventive maintenance done on your door and mechanisms is the best way to ensure that something more major isn’t going to go wrong somewhere down the line.…

Steel Storage Racks – What You Must Know Before Buying Them

Steel Storage Racks – What You Must Know Before Buying Them

Many of us have so much clutter around the house. If you live in a modestly-spaced home like many of us, or you happen to live in a part of the world where accommodation is very expensive (forcing people to live in small houses relative to the number of people living in them), this will be a huge issue. A house with stuff untidily strewn everywhere can be a nasty sight and leaves visitors with a real bad impression.

Sometimes, the problem of space in your home creeps up on you. You may move into a house that may be just right for you and your spouse. Then the kids come along, and by the time you start acquiring stuff like baby buggies, toys, furniture and maybe carry out a few renovations, you find yourself out of house space all of a sudden. By this stage, your family upkeep cost will compete for every available penny you have and moving to a bigger house may not be that easy for you. Either way, you are stuck with having to navigate your way through a lot of stuff in your bathroom, kitchen, living room, garage, everywhere. Wow!

If you have space constraints in your home, there is an excellent way to deal with the problem. The solution? Try making use of steel storage racks.

Stainless steel racks are an ideal way to store certain things in your house. Due to the fact that steel is strong, durable, does not rust and is capable of withstanding heavy weights, steel plate storage racks can provide a great way to store items in the home.

Here are some ways you can deploy stainless steel storage racks at home.

In the bathroom, you can make a few stainless steel racks in the form of wire baskets inside the bathroom closet. In the kitchen, you can mount steel plate storage racks on the wall to hold plates, wine glasses and your bottles of spices and food ingredients to create some space. The advantage here is that you do not need to worry about termite attacks if you had used wood for this purpose.

A stainless steel wall rack to hold all those books and journals that would ordinarily have been stacked on the study room floor or on tables will create a good deal of space.

Many people use their garage to store items. But if you have a car parked there as well, it won’t be long before you have space constraints there as well. But if you build steel overhead garage storage racks, you can store things like tools, your outdoor adventure gear and anything you would have loved to store in a garage.

Apply stainless steel racks in these creative ways and you will find yourself creating more space in your home.…

Some Benefits Of Investing In Suntouch

Some Benefits Of Investing In Suntouch

If you were to ask homeowners what they disliked about waking up in the morning, you’d probably get the same answer from a pretty good number of them. Waking up and having to walk on a cold floor can effectively convince many individuals to stay in bed where it is warm. But what if you could solve this problem and enjoy having a warm floor at a price that fits most budgets?

Suntouch is quickly becoming more popular among homeowners because it can offer this very thing. The system depends on mats that are placed under your flooring to effectively heat the floor to controlled temperatures that can typically be changed at will. One of the benefits of Suntouch is the fact that you don’t have to deal with that daily discomfort any longer.

Another benefit to having this unique feature installed in your home is the level of control it can give to homeowners. In most cases, you can control the temperature of the floor in each room individually. So, when you are getting in the shower, you might be able to set the system to warm the floor by the time you get out, so don’t feel like you’re stepping on ice. Or, in the morning, you could have your flooring ready for your tired feet to help make the transition from sleep to wakefulness that much easier.

It is important to keep in mind that heat rises. When Suntouch is used, the heat that is provided by the system can not only make your floor more comfortable to walk on, but it can also have an effect on the wall and furnishings as well. This added advantage could help reduce your heating costs during those colder months each year.

Now, you may be concerned with what effect the system could have on your home. Since the temperature is intelligently operated by the user, it helps put fears of things getting too hot to rest. Suntouch is intended to be individually pleasing to each customer, meaning that you can decide what temperature you want your floor to be.

Suntouch also can provide another benefit that is frequently enjoyed by a great number of homeowners. This type of heating system doesn’t typically have a need of filters or ducts, which could mean less maintenance for you. Imagine enjoying warm floors without needing to spend countless hours keeping the system functioning properly.

The mats that the Suntouch system uses can usually be found in a number of different sizes. They are typically made to meet different needs, so doing a little research into this heating option could pay off. Asking an individual with experience in dealing with this option will probably help you learn more about how it works, and what it can do for you.

As you can see, there are some very unique benefits that these mats can bring to your home. It is important to do your homework to decide if this is a good heating option for your living space. Depending on what your specific needs are, you should be able to have the system installed, or even install it yourself, without needing to break your budget.…
